Who would have thought when Engaging Safety Ltd was established way back in 2015 that we would have had the opportunity to work with some fantastic companies? One of the companies that really stands out is RS Landscapes who came to us in October 2019 to ask if Engaging Safety could help them to achieve the ‘Safe Schemes in Procurement’ (SSiP) Accreditation.
Background to the SSiP Accreditation Scheme
A little background info to SSiP; the accreditation was established in 2009 following on from a Government report on accelerating the SME economic engine via transparent, simple, and strategic procurement. There are several Member Schemes to choose from including CHAS, Safe Contractor, Construction Line, and others all designed to assess applications to their schemes against the SSIP Core Criteria. The criteria are aligned to the Government-backed construction pre-qualification document PAS 91 and thus ensure consistency within supply chain management.
To gain accreditation to the schemes mentioned above, an SME should aim to have clear and concise, documented records and a robust Health and Safety Management System. Having these procedures in place allows for simplification in achieving accreditation and ensures a reduction in the time spent in tendering for new work and the inevitable bureaucracy which exists within the supply chain.
RS Landscapes and Engaging Safety
Back in October 2019, Rochdale landscaping company RS Landscapes contacted Engaging Safety and explained that they were looking to tender for work with a potential new client, however, one prerequisite to allow them to do this was that as a business, they must be ‘Safe Contractor’ accredited.
Engaging Safety worked closely with RS Landscapes to assist them in undertaking a detailed analysis of their business to establish their core activities. We subsequently provided RS Landscapes with a comprehensive and coherent Health & Safety Management System which aligns with HSE Guidance HSG65 and SSiP core criteria. By providing the complete system, it allowed their key staff to continue to concentrate on their existing business clients and not distract from their core activities, allowing them to maintain their first-class service levels.

Success and Status
In December 2019, RS Landscapes received the news we were all waiting for and we are delighted to announce that they were successful in achieving ‘Safe Contractor’ Status. Back to the present day and we learned the accreditation has had a significant and positive impact on their business enabling them to continue to tender for a broader variety of work.
We currently have the capacity to support other businesses to help them achieve an SSiP Accreditation. If you would like us to help you improve your potential to win business, please contact Engaging Safety for a free initial discussion.
